Reflection week 5

  1.  What did you actually learned from the unit. I found the lectures interesting this week, there is so much to the management side of nursing that I don't always think about so it was interesting to think about that point of view.  2. Discuss your feelings/experiences from the team activities? Did it change your opinion on the subject? If so, how? If not, why? Sometimes it can be hard to gauge the team activities just because we all do them at different times during the week. I work Saturday, Sunday and Monday nights, therefor I do most of my homework at the beginning of the week. I think a lot of my teammates wait until the weekend to do their homework and so I don't always get to learn from their opinions in that aspect.  3. How you will utilize the information learned in your nursing practice. I think next time I meet with my manager for my quarterly review I will have more respect for the concepts and why they are utilized.  4. You personal feelings...

Week Three ( Late Submission)

1.  What did you actually learned from the unit. To be honest, what I actually learned is to never get behind on my schoolwork again and turn things in on time!! I struggled this last week and I am not usually one to not turn in my assignments on time, I don't like it.  2. Discuss your feelings/experiences from the team activities? Did it change your opinion on the subject? If so, how? If not, why? The team activity was a learning expereince, we did ours incorrectly on the first submission but got it all squared away the second time.  3. How you will utilize the information learned in your  nursing practice. More interview questions to learn from.  4. You personal feelings about the material covered. Refer to number one, I struggled this particular week so I didn't really learn a whole lot unfortunately, other than I hate being late, turning in late assignments and don't ever want to put myself in this position again.

Reflective Journal Week 4

  1.  What did you actually learned from the unit. I learned a lot about interviewing questions, the different types used, what employers are looking for in answers.  2. Discuss your feelings/experiences from the team activities? Did it change your opinion on the subject? If so, how? If not, why? I thought the zoom call for the three hour block was fun, at first I was a little annoyed because it seemed like such a long time, but it was actually fun to see some of my classmates.  3. How you will utilize the information learned in your nursing practice. I think the interview questions and what I learned about those will be helpful in my nursing practice, especially in the future when I apply for other opportunities.  4. You personal feelings about the material covered. The last three questions answer this one.

Interview Questions

What qualities are essential for the employees you hire? I call them the core values, honesty, integrity, trustworthy, hard working, good communication skills, treats everyone how they would like to be treated and being willing to learn. How do you prefer your candidates to dress when coming in for an interview? Clothing that is presentable, but also expresses them as an individual, in a professional and appropriate manner. How long does the hiring process take from putting out a job posting to offering a candidate a job? Well, there is the first initial interview which is getting to know the candidate and explaining the position, the second interview, if they qualify, is getting to know the area director and general managers. At times there is a third interview, but usually after the second interview, there is a good idea of the candidate that will fit in with our team. Typically, on average, I would say its a 2-3 week process. What are the top 3 qualities you look for in an emp...

Reflective Journal Week 2

. 1.  What did you actually learned from the unit. I think it is important to remember to think critically, be open minded and self aware. Nursing is a journey of continuous learning, there is ALWAYS something to learn no matter how long you have been a nurse.  2. Discuss your feelings/experiences from the team activities? Did it change your opinion on the subject? If so, how? If not, why? I think online team activities are hard to accomplish, especially now that the majority of us are working, our schedules are different..etc and so on. My team and I seemed to agree on all of the material that we presented so no, my opinion did not change.  3. How you will utilize the information learned in your nursing practice. As I said in question one, there is always something to learn, the information and science based evidence will continue to change and advance as time passes whether we want it to or not. Being open to these changes and new information is so important...

Personality Test

     a. The results of the test The result of the test for me was 'Steady'.       b. Was this a revelation/ new knowledge about yourself? I actually agree with the test and I felt as though it did explain my personality fairly closely.        c. How will this effect your leadership style? I don't think it will affect it, I am pretty easy going and still an important and necessary part of a team in order for the team to function well.       d. What will you do with the knowledge this test gives you? Not a whole lot, I found it interesting and pretty closely correct but I don't think I will do much with it, it is what it is and I am who I am.

Leadership Characteristics

  1.    Leadership requires personal mastery   – Nurses demonstrate leadership when they show competence and mastery in the tasks they perform. Nurses are deemed competent by means of a license to practice nursing (NLN 2010). 2.   Leadership is about values  – A leader has to have values, those they are leading follow these values  and learn from their leaders.  3.    Leadership is about service  – Not only are you serving patients, you are serving as a go to for your team of employees.  4.    Leadership is about people and relationships  – If you don't have a good relationship with your peers, you team, the people around you, your workplace will be miserable. If the charge nurse for the shift doesn't have a good relationship with his/her peers, the team will not function well and has potential to impact patient care.  5.     Leadership is contextual  – relating what you're doing in ...
